What is the Fundamentals of Yoga Workshop?

If you have never tried yoga before, it can be difficult to know where to start. Googling the word yoga brings up 1,900,000,000 different results, and Instagram is filled with plenty of photos and videos of intimidatingly complicated yoga poses that, from most of us, elicit gasps of wonder and disbelief. Since there is an overload of yoga information out there, it can appear discouraging and beyond the bounds of possibility. The Fundamentals of Yoga Workshop will show you, all of our students and friends, that not only does yoga not have to be something that is scary or intimidating, but that it is something that is completely attainable to you…and fun! ANYONE can do yoga, regardless of age, gender, background, or size. If you can breathe, you can do yoga!

The Fundamentals of Yoga workshop is a one hour workshop offered one Saturday a month. If you have never done yoga before, then this is a great place for you to start. Can you attend the workshop if you have practiced yoga before? Of course you can! The Fundamentals of Yoga is a great way to reawaken a past yoga practice! The workshop is open to all ages and levels of experience. It would also be a great choice for any yogi who wishes to reacquaint him or herself with the fundamentals of yoga, or for someone who is considering beginning a yoga practice.

Register today as space is limited. Begin where you are! Stiff, scared, a little intimidated or even unsure of what yoga really is? This workshop was made for you! This workshop will explore yoga in a fun, friendly, and comfortable setting for yogis to experience the healing value of breathing and moving with vinyasa yoga. The format is open, so students are encouraged to ask questions as the class moves through foundational yoga poses (including modifications to accommodate your own personal abilities), meditation, breathing techniques, and how to link movement to breath.

Join Jessica a for a 5 week prenatal yoga series! She specializes in Prenatal Yoga and completed her certification through Blooma Yoga at Kirpalu Center for Yoga & Health.

Prenatal yoga uses gentle yoga movements to help relieve tension while teaching you how to remain calm and focused. This prenatal workshop is designed to build community with other moms and will include stretching, postural alignment and breathing techniques. You will also learn specific yoga poses for addressing the discomforts of pregnancy and for building strength, flexibility and endurance. This class will conclude with a period of relaxation. You are encouraged to practice at your own level of comfort, the instructor can help you modify any pose. This series is suitable for women in their 2nd and/or 3rd trimester, no previous yoga experience is necessary.

“When you’re in a pose, remember that contact is your leverage. It is two things coming together only because you are mediating between the two. Whatever you’re working with, be grateful. Knowing that establishing contact is where you begin.” ~Katonah Yoga

 

Description: This workshop will begin with a yoga flow incorporating the wall to prepare for different standing poses (forward folds, warrior 2, half moon, chair pose, etc). The class will breakdown standing and single leg standing poses learning different techniques using the wall in order to provide contact, build strength, release tension, assist and create stability and leverage to keep exploring each pose and how it was made to fit in your body. The class will wind down with some restorative and counter stretches leading into savasana. All levels welcome!

The Art of Assisting and Adjusting (CANTON)

With a curriculum specifically designed for yoga instructors, we will breakdown and examine asanas that are commonly found throughout vinyasa style classes. With each pose we will discuss how to give effective cues as well as several examples of the most safe and effective way to assist a student into and out of a posture.
Following a Baptist power sequence postures to be covered include grounding, folds, twists, back-bends and balance. Wrapping up with the effectiveness of touch in Savasana.

Taking time to inform yourself and practice your assists will develop confidence, and add another layer of purpose to your teaching. In return, your students will not only learn proper alignment, but will gain support and cultivate trust in their own personal journey on the mat.

Kristen is an 200hr E - RYT certified yoga instructor as well as a NTMB certified Thai massage practitioner. She has been actively practicing yoga for 6 years and has taught a variety of classes for the last 4 years. She believes passionately that offering clear directive cues as well as hands on guidance helps students to better refine their form, and in return find a higher level of function in their practice.

*4 CE hours will be offered with this workshop.

Gentle Yoga with Massage (CANTON)

This workshop is a gentle and restorative yoga session that includes massage by the instructor. During this class, students will hold comfortable, stretching poses and receive massage on various parts of the body . For example, in pigeon pose, students can expect massage on their face, neck, arms, shoulders, legs, and feet.

The workshop is designed for all level of yoga students, even those who may be taking their first class. If there is an area of the body that you would enjoy having massaged, be sure to wear clothing that exposes that particular part. Likewise, there will be a time to communicate that there is an area you do not want massaged.
A Certified Massage Therapist, Angel Webster is trained in relaxation massage, myofascial release, deep tissue, and sports massage. Helping people with yoga, through the art of massage, is Angel's passion. Expect lots of hand-on love throughout the entire class.

Be sure to reserve your spot in advance as this class is limited to a maximum of 15 students. Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance of the class.

The Fundamentals of Yoga workshop is a one hour workshop offered one Saturday a month. If you have never done yoga before, then this is a great place for you to start. Can you attend the workshop if you have practiced yoga before? Of course you can! The Fundamentals of Yoga is a great way to reawaken a past yoga practice! The workshop is open to all ages and levels of experience. It would also be a great choice for any yogi who wishes to reacquaint him or herself with the fundamentals of yoga, or for someone who is considering beginning a yoga practice.

This workshop will explore yoga in a fun, friendly, and comfortable setting for yogis to experience the healing value of breathing and moving with vinyasa yoga. The format is open, so students are encouraged to ask questions as the class moves through foundational yoga poses (including modifications to accommodate your own personal abilities), meditation, breathing techniques, and how to link movement to breath.

Join Jessica a for a 4 week prenatal yoga series! She specializes in Prenatal Yoga and completed her certification through Blooma Yoga at Kirpalu Center for Yoga & Health.

Prenatal yoga uses gentle yoga movements to help relieve tension while teaching you how to remain calm and focused. This prenatal workshop is designed to build community with other moms and will include stretching, postural alignment and breathing techniques. You will also learn specific yoga poses for addressing the discomforts of pregnancy and for building strength, flexibility and endurance. This class will conclude with a period of relaxation. You are encouraged to practice at your own level of comfort, the instructor can help you modify any pose. Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that promotes well-being. In order to heal, you must raise your personal vibration. It’s that simple. Learn how to use this ancient Japanese technique to bring about wellbeing for you and those in your life.

In this Reiki One class you will learn about Reiki; its origin, how it works, the science behind it and its benefits. You will learn the true meaning of healing and what it means to be a healer. You will also receive a Reiki One Attunement; receive training on how to preform Reiki on yourself, family and friends; experience hands on practice and much more! At the end of class, you will be presented with a Reiki One certificate. You must be present for the entire class to receive your certificate.

Camp Southern Ground is a non profit organization that provides a camp experience for children of all socioeconomic backgrounds, races and religions, with programs that challenge, educate, and inspire. They bring together typically developing children, children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning and attention issues such as ADHD, and Dyslexia, and social or emotional challenges. They also support and include children of military families as a vital part of their camper population.
